COUNTY council leader Ellen ap Gwynn was applauded by fellow Plaid Cymru councillors at a full council meeting last week after she apologised for losing her temper during a TV interview.

Despite criticism from the public and opposition councillors about her handling of the interview, Plaid councillors showed their backing with a round of applause for Cllr ap Gwynn after she apologised saying she had “let myself down”.

Cllr Ceredig Davies had called for an apology from Cllr ap Gwynn, but he was stopped from continuing by council chairman Dai Mason who insisted the matter should not be discussed as it was not on the agenda.

Cllr ap Gwynn was then, however, allowed to defend the use of Pricewaterhouse Coopers to find savings across the council before issuing her apology.

Cllr ap Gwynn, though, admitted she had lost her temper during the BBC interview.

She said: “I would challenge any one of you not to lose your temper if you were pressed on the same point when you’d made it perfectly clear three times that it wasn’t possible, legally, to answer.

“I do acknowledge I lost my temper and I shouldn’t have done so. I don’t think I’ve ever done such a thing in a such a situation. Unfortunately when there is a camera present, everyone has their failings.

“I do apologise because I am apologising to myself that I let myself down in such a way. I apologise for losing my temper. I’ll do my best not to do it again.”
