MAINTENANCE work is still being carried out on the former Bodlondeb care home which closed in January.

Council leader Ellen ap Gwynn said the council had received offers for the Bodlondeb site, but the authority has still not made a decision on whether to accept one.

Chief executive Eifion Evans said maintenance to the building was still being carried out to ensure its condition did not deteriorate.

Cllr Alun Lloyd Jones, who had opposed the closure of Bodlondeb, said he had received concerns from residents that maintenance on the building had been ceased in an attempt to save the cash-strapped council money.

He said: “Apparently it’s deteriorating and, if it deteriorates, its value will go down.

“We need to keep an eye on the condition of the building and ensure that it is not deteriorating.”

However, Mr Evans said that while grounds maintenance in the gardens of the site had not been carried out as they would have been when the home is open, maintenance was still taking place on the building itself.

He said: “As far as maintenance of the inside of the building we are looking after to keep its value.”

The council had confirmed in July that offers for the building had been lodged, but would not say how many offers had been made or what the potential buyers intended to do with the site.

A council spokesperson said: “The council continues to invite offers that are in line with the uses that were prioritised by the Cabinet. Because of this, the council cannot comment further at this stage.”
