CEREDIGION will be “one of the key battles” of the Welsh Assembly Elections, the county’s Liberal Democrat candidate has claimed.

Speaking at the official launch of the Welsh Liberal Democrat’s campaign last Thursday ahead of the elections on 5 May, Elizabeth Evans, who is also an Aberaeron councillor, made her initial bid to become the county’s representative in the Senedd.

Mrs Evans used the occasion to set the tone for the elections next month, arguing that the battle between the Lib Dems and Plaid Cymru for Ceredigion would be “the battle to end all battles”, and claiming that the county was more liberal than it was nationalistic.

“I’m a Ceredigion girl born and bred and I believe passionately in the people of Ceredigion,” said Mrs Evans. “As a councillor and a candidate, I am fighting this election to change people’s lives and get down to Cardiff Bay and make a difference there.

“This is one of the key battles — the battle to end all battles.

“There is a lot at stake between Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats in Ceredigion.”

Mrs Evans added: “The roots of liberalism are in Ceredigion, the roots of nationalism are not.”
