ABERYSTWYTH University’s international politics department hosted a discussion about the Syrian refugee crisis at the weekend, with talks from charity workers, politicians and academics.
In attendance on Friday evening was Dr Ayman Jundi of Syria Relief, Ceredigion MP Mark Williams and senior lecturer at the department of international politics, Dr Ayla Gol, along with a room full of interested observers.
Syria Relief Ceredigion, one of the very few charities still operating inside Syria, was able to donate another £150 — enough to adopt an orphan for five months or feed a family of four for six months — as a result of the evening, in addition to the £1,020 cheque (pictured) sent in June.
Mr Williams offered to do what he could when Dr Ayman explained there had been obstruction over the transfer of funds via Turkey for security reasons.
Dr Ayla Gol talked about how devastating, confused and far-reaching the crisis is becoming.
Syria Relief Ceredigion’s next meeting will be at 6pm on Wednesday, 4 November, in the Arts Centre Café, and all are welcome to attend.
