THE Conservatives have parachuted in a woman described as having a “bright future” in the party to stand in the Ceredigion election.

Ruth Davis, from London, missed out on standing in the ultra-safe Conservative seat of Chichester after losing the final vote on 2 May.

After her defeat, she was named as the candidate for Ceredigion when nominations closed on Thursday.

UKIP has also announced its candidate in the county, with Tom Harrison of Cardiff getting his name on the ballot.

The Conservative and UKIP candidates bring the total number of people on the ballot to seven.

Ruth Davis lost the Chichester vote to stand in the constituency that has a majority of 24,413 to Cllr Gillian Keegan.

A cyber security policy specialist, Ms Davis is a former head of cyber security at TechUK.

Previously a crime and justice research fellow at Policy Exchange, she is now director of policy for a major telecoms company.

She is also a former adviser to the Home Affairs Select Committee and to Crispin Blunt, when he was Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Counter Terrorism.

Already announced candidates standing in Ceredigion are Sir Dudley the Crazed (Monster Raving Loony Party); Grenville Ham (Green); Ben Lake (Plaid Cymru); Dinah Mulholland (Labour); and Mark Williams (Lib Dem).
