BOUNDARY changes which would see Machynlleth incorporated into a larger Ceredigion constituency are “unlikely to see the light of day”, a councillor has said.
The new set of proposals for Westminster constituencies, which were released last month and show the new Ceredigion and north Pembrokeshire constituency will take in the Machynlleth, Llanbrynmair, and Glantwymyn wards, will not happen, according to Cllr Dylan Lewis.
After initial objections were received to the inclusion of Llanidloes and Blaen Hafren wards and the exclusion of Machynlleth, the Boundary Commission said it had listened to feedback in drawing up the new proposals.
Cllr Dylan Lewis said: “I don’t think these proposals will see the light of day.”
Cllr Mark Strong added: “They have spent two or three years on this and in that time, the boundaries were entirely different to what they are now.”
But Cllr Alun Williams said it was positive that the Electoral Commission listened to what councils and residents had to say.
“You might well be right that these will never happen, but I am grateful that the Electoral Commission listened,” he said.
“It is more appropriate for Machynlleth to be brought into the constituency rather than Llanidloes.”
