CEREDIGION County Council made a profit of almost £30,000 in 2014/15 from issuing parking tickets, despite a drop in the number of tickets issued.
Across Ceredigion, the number of tickets issued dropped to the lowest level in the last three years, although tickets issued in Aberystwyth still make up almost a third of all tickets issued.
The report for the last full year, which was 2014/15, showed that it was the second year in a row that the council actually made a profit from parking enforcement, with 2014/15 being the first year that the authority was not still paying off the costs of setting up the enforcement system.
The council now has almost £41,000 in its parking account, but will not decide how to spend that money until the end of the current financial year.
The report says: “The Civil Parking Enforcement budget is mainly comprised of income from Penalty Charge Notices and waivers, less any expenditure on enforcement, administration, parking enforcement infrastructure and debt recovery.
“The overall parking account shows a surplus of £40,975.14 at the end of the 2014/15 financial year following a £29,938.65 surplus in 2014/15. No decision has been taken on the use of the surplus to date, as further consideration of the parking account at the end of the 2015/16 financial year will be necessary."
