A GWYNEDD councillor has revealed that he’s joined Plaid Cymru – but plans to continue sitting as an independent member.

Cllr Dylan Bullard was first elected to represent the Pwllheli North ward in 2017’s local elections, unseating long-standing Plaid Cymru councillor Michael Sol Owen.

But Cllr Bullard says he’s decided to join the nationalists following the recent election of Adam Price as party leader, noting his dissatisfaction with the current state of Welsh and UK politics.

Despite this, he revealed that he will not be joining the Plaid Cymru grouping on Gwynedd Council, as he did not share their stance on some local issues.

“I plan to remain as an Independent member and informed the group beforehand of my intention to join the party,” he said.

“As I understand it, they will now decide if they’re happy for me to continue within the group, but I have no plans to join the Plaid Cymru group.”

In a tweet, Cllr Bullard added: “I honestly think that we need change in Wales.

“There is no ‘too poor’ or ‘too small’. We can be a vibrant forward-thinking nation, Labour have had their chance and failed, Tories are too union driven, a union which has also failed Wales for years.”

Despite Cllr Bullard (pictured) not joining the ruling Plaid Cymru administration, the ruling group still holds a handsome majority on the authority with 41 of the 75 seats.

The second largest group, the Independents, hold 22, with Llais Gwynedd represented by six councillors.
