A CEREDIGION teenager who produced online case statistics during the pandemic has been named as the county’s representative to the Welsh Youth Parliament.

Lloyd Warburton has been congratulated by Ceredigion’s MS and MP after the Welsh Youth Parliament announced the results of its second-ever elections for young people in Wales.

Lloyd, who painstakingly produced daily updates on Wales-wide covid case numbers for much of the pandemic said he was “delighted” at being elected.

Ceredigion MS Elin Jones sais she “is very pleased” with the result.

Lloyd, a sixth form pupil at Ysgol Penglais School, said he is “eager to represent Ceredigion at a national level.”

“I have a strong interest in local and national politics and have always had the ambition of standing up for Ceredigion at a national level,” he said.

“Since 2017, I have passionately supported independence for Wales, and since then have become much more interested in specific local issues.

“I will speak up strongly for young mental health, re-opening the Aberystwyth-Carmarthen railway, as well as for the rural environment, particularly the litter problems in our county.

“I will actively provide updates on my work on social media and be easy to contact over social media and other means regarding any issue that’s important to young people in Ceredigion.

“I look forward to serving all of Ceredigion’s young people.”

Ms Jones, who has been an active supporter of the creation of the Welsh Youth Parliament, to which the first Members were elected in 2018, said she was “looking forward to the work the second Welsh Youth Parliament will continue do as it represents the young people of Wales.”

“It is time that their voices are heard and the Youth Parliament gives them the platform do to this, empowering them to influence the politics of their future,” she said.

“Lloyd has worked hard throughout the pandemic, providing useful information to the people of Wales, and I wish him well for the future.

“I’d also like to thank Caleb Rees for his excellent work as Ceredigion’s first ever representative in the first Welsh Youth Parliament.”

Among other candidates to take seats were Jake Dillon, who was elected to represent Montgomeryshire, and Iago Llyn Evans taking the seat for Dwyfor Meirionydd.
