CARDIGAN will be a battleground between Plaid Cymru and the Welsh Liberal Democrats tomorrow.

In Cardigan Mwldan ward, veteran Plaid Cymru stalwart John Adams-Lewis faces a challenge from Sian Maehrlein.

Another intriguing head-to-head clash will see long-time town councillor and sitting county councillor Catrin Miles pitted against Welsh Liberal Democrat Steve Greenhalgh in Cardigan Teifi ward.

Following Mark Cole’s surprise decision to quit front-line politics at the age of 34, the Welsh Liberal Democrats will be represented in Cardigan Rhydyfuwch ward by Elaine Evans, who faces a straightforward fight with Plaid’s Shân Williams.

Staying in the south of the county, the village of Penparc will witness a four-way contest between outgoing Cardigan town mayor Clive Davies (Plaid Cymru), Independent Des Davies, Graham Dixon (Welsh Liberal Democrats) and Nigel Sydney Moore (Welsh Conservatives).

This quartet will be competing to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Haydn Lewis following a political career spanning 49 years.

In Lampeter, Hag Harris – Welsh Labour’s sole voice at County Hall – and Independent Ivor Williams will be seeking to stave off the challenge of Elin Jones (Plaid Cymru).

Two more Plaid v Lib Dem duels see Plaid’s Owain Arwel Hughes taking on Elizabeth Evans in Aberaeron, while Plaid’s Catherine Hughes will be fighting to retain her Tregaron seat against Karine Davies.
