CEREDIGION County Council’s Cabinet has seen just one change from the last administration.
Council leader Ellen ap Gwynn announced the members that will make up the authority’s Cabinet under the coalition between Plaid Cymru, the Independent group and Independent Voice.
Seven councillors will retain their roles, with the only change seeing Plaid Cymru’s Catrin Miles take over the role of Cabinet member for learning services from Cllr Hag Harris, of Independent Voice.
That means that Cllr ap Gwynn will take responsibility for partnerships, language and performance management and deputy leader Ray Quant continue to take the role for technical services and corporate services.
Cllr Catherine Hughes is the Cabinet member for social services; Cllr Alun Williams will be responsible for carbon management, sustainability, transportation and mental health; Cllr Dafydd Edwards will continue as the member for finance, information technology, customer services and housing; with Cllr Gareth Lloyd continuing in the role as Cabinet member for economic and community development and Cllr Rhodri Evans retaining the role as Cabinet member for lifestyle services.
But Cllr Ceredig Davies, the leader of the opposition Liberal Democrats in the council, said the announcement was a missed opportunity.
He said: “What I hear is the Cabinet is still going to be eight members and unfortunately the Cabinet and leader haven’t reformed the Cabinet to reflect the fact that this council has transformed.
“For a lot of staff the expectation is for them to work much harder to provide the services in this county, but Ellen still insists we need eight Cabinet members.
“There’s an opportunity there for her to show that she, as a leader and Cabinet member, is also willing to take the additional burden that she expects the staff to take.”
