AS CEREDIGION gets ready to go to the polls on 5 May for the Welsh Assembly Elections, the Cambrian News has produced a quick introduction to each of the constituency and lead regional candidates looking for your vote. The constituency candidates for Ceredigion are as follows:

Dr Felix Aubel Conservative

Dr Felix Aubel, the Conservative candidate for Ceredigion, is a Congregational minister, former school teacher, son of a greengrocer and PhD graduate of history.

Also a graduate of theology from the University of Wales Lampeter, Dr Aubel lived in Aberaeron until a decade ago.

Elizabeth Evans Liberal Democrat

Elizabeth Evans has been a Lib Dem county councillor for Aberaeron since 2008 and became chair of the Economic Development and Tourism Scrutiny Committee within two years of being elected.

Mrs Evans, who followed in the footsteps of her grandfather by becoming mayor of Aberaeron within a year of being elected to the town council, spent her formative years in the retail industry in Cardiff and London and as a self-employed businesswoman in Aberystwyth.

Gethin James UKIP

Gethin James has represented Aberporth as a county councillor since 2004 and stood against Mark Williams MP as UKIP’s Parliamentary candidate for Ceredigion in last year’s General Elections.

Formerly an Independent councillor, Mr James has lived in Ceredigion all his life and has worked in transport and medicine manufacturing.

Elin Jones Plaid Cymru

Elin Jones has been the Assembly Member for Ceredigion since the first elections to the Welsh Assembly in 1999, and is now deputy leader and shadow health minister for Plaid Cymru.

Born in 1966, Ms Jones, who grew up on a farm in Llanwnnen, near Lampeter, graduated with a BSc in economics from Cardiff University and an MSc in rural economics from Aberystwyth University, and now lives in Aberaeron.

Iwan Wyn Jones Labour

Iwan Wyn Jones is Labour’s 21-year-old candidate for Ceredigion, and although he hails from Caernarfon, is currently studying for an undergraduate degree in geography and international politics at Aberystwyth University.

Brian Dafydd Williams Green Party

Brian Dafydd Williams is the Wales Green Party candidate for Ceredigion who grew up in rural Ireland and went to an Irish-language school.

Mr Williams later went on to live in the industrial heartland of south Wales, Port Talbot, an experience he says helped him develop a rounded view of society and the environment.
