Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, is continuing to give his total support to Theresa May as Prime Minister.

He has been critical of those who submitted letters seeking a vote of no confidence in her leadership, and has dismissed the writers as “self-indulgent, self-defeating, and not acting in the national interest”.

Mr Davies MP said: “I accept that there is divided opinion in both the government, main opposition and Liberal Democrat parties on the future shape of the UK’s relationship with the EU. I’ve never known such an uncertain time in public affairs in my lifetime. Whether we voted Leave or Remain, it’s crucial that we stay calm and consider next steps with extreme care.

“To be suggesting that the Conservative Party should seek to change our Prime Minister at this time is unwise, verging on the irresponsible. I accept that the opposition will challenge the Government, but in recent weeks, there has been constant sniping against our Prime Minister by a handful of Conservative MPs, seriously undermining her efforts to secure a leaving deal that works for both the UK and the EU. They have been self-indulgent, self-defeating and not acting in the interests of our country. Thankfully, they have been shown to be a ‘Busted flush’ with nothing like the influence they thought they had.

“Like most people I am not 100% happy with the draft agreement at this stage, but I do believe it is better than I expected, and it is in the interests of Montgomeryshire, the UK and the EU that we leave with an agreement. The Prime Minister knows she has my full support. We are fortunate that we have such a dedicated and resolute leader at this crucial time.”
