CEREDIGION MP Mark Williams has said that the attack on Westminster last week Wednesday that left five dead and dozens injured was a “very harrowing experience”.

Mr Williams was in the Houses of Parliament at around 2.40pm when an attacker struck.

Mr Williams, who was holed up in the Central Lobby while police locked down the area, said he was “deeply shocked by the terrible events that took place in Westminster”.

“It was a very harrowing experience, but more importantly the bravery of the emergency services was exemplary,” he said.

“Sadly innocent people were taken from us, and many more were injured.

“Pc Keith Palmer has made the ultimate sacrifice in defending Parliament and our democracy from this most heinous and callous of terrorist attacks. Parliament and the country is united in expressing our condolences and our determination to defend democracy.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of those who lost their lives and those who were injured and traumatised in this cruel, abhorrent and cowardly attack.

“We must and will not allow this attack to stop us from standing up for democracy, tolerance and human rights. These are fundamental values that we will continue to stand up for, against the politics of hatred, intolerance and terror.”
