CEREDIGION politicians, including Ben Lake MP, Elin Jones AM and former MP Mark Williams gathered with campaigners in Lampeter to call for a people’s vote on Brexit after Theresa May released her 585-page proposal, which led to a number of high profile resignations in the Government.
Mr Lake said: “Such is its importance for the future of our communities, that if Parliament is unable to settle this matter, it must be handed back to the electorate.”
Ms Jones said: “In light of the parliamentary chaos, where clearly there is no majority for Theresa May’s deal, then a ‘no deal’ Brexit is beginning to loom large. That would be catastrophic for our rural communities and for Wales. So when Parliament can’t decide, it’s time to let the people decide.”
Mr Williams said: “I have never doubted that people did know what they were voting for in the referendum, but it is now so much clearer what Brexit entails, and the real impact on Ceredigion and our communities, that people must have the opportunity to vote on this final deal. Democracy is a process not an event.”
