OVER 300 people have signed a petition calling for a crackdown on irresponsible jet-skiers in Abersoch after watercrafts were spotted riding close to swimmers.
Catrin Rosewarne, who works in the Abersoch Beach Café, said she has had enough of watching some jet-ski users ignoring the rules and riding close to swimmers during the busy summer months.
The petition, which was set up by Catrin, and currently signed by 388 people, is calling for sea patrols to enforce the rules for jet-ski users.
She said: “There have been many boats and jet skis in the wrong section where there are swimmers.
“They have been told they can’t go there, but have chosen to ignore the beach wardens because there is no patrol on the water to stop them.
“The beach wardens work hard and try their best, but there is not much they can do from the beach!
“There is a need for some sort of boat or jet ski to enforce the rules on the water. Recently there were jet skis going very fast and were extremely close to swimmers and there was no way of stopping them."
This is not the first time calls have been made for patrols to be carried out at sea. In July, Cllr Alwyn Gruffydd from Porthmadog Town Council called for more action to be taken against those who harass dolphins and other marine animals following reports that the animals were being harassed off the coast of Abersoch and Tywyn.
In June a campaign was launched by Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts and Abersoch councillor R H Wyn Williams, to help people report incidents involving jet-skis.
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Any craft not observing the relevant regulations will have their registration removed and will not be permitted to launch in Gwynedd. As a council, we would urge members of the public to report any anti-social behaviour with boats on the coast to the council’s maritime unit or contact North Wales Police.”
