A PETITION has been launched to bring the National Eisteddfod to Porthmadog.
Local resident and prospective county councillor, Nia Jeffreys, made calls for the National Eisteddfod to make a return to Porthmadog last month and since then, she says support for the idea has been amazing.
Nia said: “The day the story appeared in the Cambrian News my phone was ringing and ringing with people wanting to get involved. The response on social media has also been amazing.
"The Eisteddfod would bring in a lot of money and visitors to Porthmadog and give the economy a huge boost. But Porthmadog has so much to offer the Eisteddfod as a location too.
"I know that we would have no trouble at all raising money for the Eisteddfod. Local school who have a long tradition of competing (and winning) at the Eisteddfod are 100 percent behind idea. From the support I’ve had already from community stalwads and others I know we can overcome any hurdle to bringing the Eisteddfod here.
“Please everyone from Porthmadog and beyond sign our invitation to bring the Eisteddfod to Porthmadog.”
