Plaid Cymru councillors in Gwynedd have thrown their support behind Mabon ap Gwynfor who will stand as their Dwyfor Meirionnydd candidate for the next Assembly Election in 2021.
Plaid Cymru’s Gwynedd leader Dyfrig Siencyn said there were a number of candidates for the role.
“The competition to choose a candidate was an inspiration to Plaid members in Dwyfor Meirionnydd with six strong candidates sharing a passion to make a difference to the constituency communities and to contribute to the team that will govern Wales after the next election,” he said.
“Mabon ap Gwynfor gained the support of the members and I am delighted to welcome a young man with the passion needed to transform Wales.”
Mabon worked in Dwyfor Meirionnydd for some years with former MP Elfyn Llwyd.
The grandson of the late Gwynfor Evans, Plaid Cymru’s first Member of Parliament and former President of the political party, he is married with four children. He has developed his skills as a community and town councillor and is now a county councillor for Llandrillo Ward.
Mabon ap Gwynfor said: “The welcome at grassroots level to my role as an Assembly candidate in Dwyfor Meirionnydd has been heartfelt.
“I am very grateful to Plaid Cymru’s Gwynedd Councillors for their support over the last few weeks, and I look forward to working with them during the coming months."
