THE future of Cardigan’s library will be secured by moving it to the council-owned Morgan Street building, according to Ceredigion Cabinet members.

Councillors had forced Cabinet members into backtracking on a decision to sell the Morgan Street building and move staff working there to rented accommodation at Canolfan Teifi, which houses the current library.

While the library will have to be reduced in size, at least for the immediate future, relocation to Morgan Street would guarantee the library’s future, councillors heard last week.

Cllr Dafydd Edwards, the Cabinet member for customer services, said reconsidering services that could be provided at Morgan Street had led to the realisation that it was possible to provide services in the Morgan Street building.

He said: “Actually I’m very pleased the council did compel us to go down this line and look at it in more detail as what hadn’t been seen before was that there is enough room in Morgan Street."
