Seven candidates are battling it out to get the nod from Plaid Cymru members to become their next candidate for the Welsh Assembly elections.

Party members will place their votes at two events, one on 26 June in Dolgellau and another on 6 July in Pwllheli.

The seven candidates are: Elin Roberts; Bangor county councillor Elin Walker Jones; Porthmadog town councillor Llywelyn Rhys; Denbighshire county councillor Mabon ap Gwynfor; Porthmadog county councillor Nia Jeffreys; Abererch county councillor Peter Read and Porthmadog town councillor Simon Brooks.

The party has a vacancy after long-standing Plaid Cymru politician, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas decided to become an independent and is currently working with the Welsh Government as deputy minister for culture, sport and tourism.

The next Welsh Assembly elections will be held in 2021, when Lord Elis-Thomas is expected to stand as an independent.
