COUNCILLORS in Dolgellau are rejoicing after receiving news that a piece of land which formerly belonged to the magistrates’ court is likely to become part of the town’s park.

The parcel of land, next to the now disused courts building, had been tended to by the Dolgellau Park Group for many years. There was outcry when it looked as if the land would be included in the sale of the court building.

A group of seven gardeners attended a recent town council meeting to voice their disapproval at the loss of land, prompting councillors to pen a letter to the relevant authorities asking for the land to be returned to the community.

After several weeks, the town council received word that it was “not guaranteed but highly likely” that the land would be returned for the use of residents.

Cllr John Raghoobar, who represents the park group on the council, was thrilled with the potential good news and was pleased the council had acted on behalf of the gardeners to positive effect.
