A TICKETING machine at a council-run car park is now up and running.
Last Tuesday, Tywyn Town Council announced the Cambrian Road Car Park pay and display machine is now operational.
There had been concerns raised by town councillor John Pughe that thousands of pounds of income had been lost by the council already as nobody had been charged to park at the facility since February when the council took responsibility for the land.
For many years previous, the nearby Talyllyn Railway was responsible for the car park which they rented from the town council.
Following the installation and commissioning of the new ticket machine, a spokesperson for Tywyn Town Council said: “[The pay and display machine] is collecting money to be used to improve recreation facilities for the community.
“As locals, please help us encourage respectful use of this fantastic resource.
“The charge is only £1 for up to four hours, £2 for up to eight hours.
“This will make a massive difference to what we are able to do with the Skate Park and the Recreation Ground for example.
“Just to clarify, having heard a few rumours, this land is part of the Cambrian Road Charity which is operated by the town council, this means that the land is privately owned and that a ‘Parking Order’ is not required in the way Gwynedd Council would need one to operate a car park.”
