BARMOUTH’S mayor has paid tribute to his friend and predecessor who passed away just before Christmas.
Peter Bunce, whose funeral was last Friday, had served the town as a councillor and mayor for several years and was a well-respected figure in Barmouth.
Current mayor Matthew Harris was pained by the loss of one of his political mentors.
“I did not serve on the council with Peter, I actually took over his seat, but I did know him personally,” Cllr Harris told the Cambrian News. ”I would catch up with Peter in the Last Inn most weeks and chat about many issues.
“It was during these chats that he encouraged and supported me in joining the council and, although he had left himself, he gave sage and useful advice that I could always count on.
“He was a kind, polite, and approachable man who had an easy manner allowing him to talk to anyone about anything.
“These endearing qualities meant that he was well-liked and respected by all.
“I personally will miss our chats, he will be sadly missed.”
