A POPULAR footpath “with fine views of the Llyn Peninsula and Snowdon” has been given a spring clean.
A path in Penygroes which connects the National Cycle Route, Lôn Eifion with the Nantlle Valley received a spring clean by the Tidy Towns Scheme.
The path is popular with local residents as well as dog walkers. Litter and fly-tipped materials were removed from the path, to make it look tidy, ready for the summer months.
A dog fouling awareness raising poster and leaflet were put up in the area of the path as part of a dog fouling campaign, which saw a 40 per cent reduction in dog fouling incidents. Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns officer saw an opportunity to improve the quality of the path by implementing a thorough clean-up.
Jonathan Neale, Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Town officer said: “This path has fine views of the Llyn Peninsula in the west and Snowdon to the east, so the build-up of rubbish is very sad to see, with fast food packaging and drinks bottles littering the ground in some places. A Tidy Towns contractor has now removed well over 100 bags of rubbish and the place is now clean and tidy.’
Gwynedd Council’s senior countryside warden, Robin Perkins, said: “This path is very popular with local people for recreation, but is also important for the wider area, linking as it does the historic Nantlle Valley with the Lôn Eifion National Cycle Route. We hope that the recent Tidy Towns dog fouling and litter campaigns will help raise awareness of these problems, and also shame those who act in an anti-social way.”
Those who discard litter in a public place are committing a crime. Anyone found guilty of littering in any public place could face a fine of up to £2,500.
