A POPULAR Llyn festival, which attracted thousands of visitors to the area, will not be staged again this year.
Organisers cancelled the Wakestock festival, held in Penrhos, last year claiming they were taking a break for a year but plans were already being made for 2016.
However, Kilimanjaro Live, who are behind the festival, confirmed this week that they will not be holding the festival this summer.
The news that the festival will not be returning has disappointed community leaders and business owners who rely on the boost in trade during the summer.
Cllr Angela Russell, who represents Llanbedrog and Penrhos on Gwynedd Council, said: “I’m very disappointed that Wakestock won’t be held again this year.
“The festival always brought a lot of people to the area and created a lot of money – it was great for the youngsters.”
A Kilimanjaro Live spokesperson said: “The unique challenges that Wakestock presented have led to our decision to concentrate on other events for this summer and not plan a festival for 2016.
“For example we are bringing the Stereophonics to north Wales for their first large scale concert which is an exciting prospect for us.
“It isn’t necessarily the case that Wakestock will never happen again but a significant level of investment in terms of time and money will need to take place in order to develop it and this will need to be carefully considered before any commitment takes place.”
