The ninth annual ‘Stars in their Eyes meets the X Factor’ was held at the Buffs Club, Barmouth on Saturday evening, raising £1,400 for the Wales Air Ambulance.

The evening attracted an enthusiastic audience of over 150.

The event has now raised almost £16,500 since its inauguration in 2011.

Charities supported in the past have been Sarcoma UK, SCUBU, Brain Tumor UK, McDonald House Liverpool, British Heart Foundation, Mind, Barmouth 1st Responders and Barmouth FC.

During those nine years no less than 70 acts and 14 judges have taken part in what is now one of Barmouth’s premier fundraising events.

Organiser Craig Papirnyck relinquished his role as Mathew Kelly to Dan Owen in his absence to present the evening.

Supporting judges were Daniel Griffiths as Peter Andre, Warren Brown as Dolly Parton and last years winner Tyrone Carr as his winning act Ceelo Green.

Allison Brooker provided the hair and make-up.

Dan said: “This is our ninth year now and it continues to be a massive success, helping to raise over £16,000 for a number of charities in that time.

“This is all down to the fantastic local community we have here in Barmouth and the surrounding area.

“They continually provide us with a great number of raffle prizes and show their support by selling out the event every year.

“But the biggest thanks is to the acts who give up their spare time to rehearse in order to provide such great entertainment. Many thanks to the Buffs for providing the venue.”

This year’s winner was Mark Williams as Kings of Leon, on stage for the first time ever.

Runner up was Stephanie Parkes as Whitney Houston.

Other acts were: Nona Causer as Tina Turner, Damian Williams as Jon Bon Jovi, Sion Griffith as Freddie Mercury, James Harris as Hugh Jackman and Gareth Griffith as George Ezra.

This year’s local sponsors were Co-op, M and P Wholesale, Trawsdir Touring Caravans, Last Inn, Barmouth Hotel, The Tilman, Pieces for Places, NorBar, Eden Hair and Beauty, David Jones Butchers, The Mermaid, Beaches Café, Cambrian Coast Traditional Fish and Chips, SUP Barmouth, Zip World, The Buffs.
