A Porthmadog man has launched a book on the history of the town. Martin Pritchard said: “Some 20 years ago, local collector Myfanwy Morris of Porthmadog, produced a book entitled Yesterday’s Tide, a collection of photographs celebrating the history of both Porthmadog and Tremadog.
Myfanwy died in 2014 and having collected old photographs and postcards of the area myself, I felt it was time to produce a similar book. My interest in collecting old pictures and postcards started about 30 years ago, the more I collected the more I wanted them to be seen rather than being left in a drawer or a card board box! To start with, I shared them by uploading them to Flickr on the internet, which has brought them to a worldwide audience. Following this, people who saw them, offered me pictures from their family albums, these included many subjects of historical interest.
For this book I have complied some of my favourites photos showing the harbour, street scenes and local businesses, many now gone, as well as other events over the last 100 years in Porthmadog and Tremadog, but are well worth remembering.”
The book published by Sara Eade publishing is now available at local bookshops.
