PORTHMADOG was awash with dozens of scooters in the recent ‘PorthMODog Scooter Rally’ which drew visitors from as far afield as the Isle of Wight, Somerset and Scotland.

The event, organised by local residents Graham ‘Lewgi’ Lewis and Kevin Tiernan, helped raised £780 for two good causes - Ras y Cob and the Porthmadog Christmas Lights Fund.

Alongside the scooter rally, which attracted over 60 scooters which paraded through town under a police escort, there was a night of music held too, featuring local bands as well as the Neville Staple band, most famous for his work with reggae/ska band ‘The Specials’.

“It was fantastic, even better than the first festival we had last year,” said Lewgi.

“It’s amazing the comments you get from people travelling here, everyone is so complimentary about the town. I think you tend to forget when you’re constantly surrounded by it.

“The campsite in Morfa Bychan was full with about 100 scooters and everyone having a good time, then a lot of them headed over to the Ganolfan and set up there. People were stopping, taking photos and asking questions - it was brilliant.

“The music too. Neville [Staple] was great, as were the other bands, I saw people I’ve known for my whole life dancing for the very first time.

“Everyone in Porthmadog got involved, it was such a warm feeling throughout the town, especially around The Station Inn and The Ship where the bands played.

“It’s nice to do something for Porthmadog. If the event gets bigger again next year we should be able to help out a few more causes”.
