Residents across Powys will have access to a network of community warm spaces this winter as the county council renews its support for the initiative.
The scheme provides welcoming places where people can escape the cold, enjoy refreshments and spend time with others during the darker months.
Among the venues participating is Llangurig Community Centre, near Llanidloes, which is advertising weekly warm space sessions beginning on Monday, 2 November. The centre plans to open every Monday between 10am and noon, offering tea, coffee, biscuits and opportunities for conversation.
Facilities include free Wi-Fi, a small library, accessible toilets and charging points for phones and other devices. Attendance is free, although donations of £2 towards refreshments are welcomed.
Some future sessions remain subject to funding.
Powys County Council says its wider network of warm spaces aims to provide safe, accessible environments for everyone, regardless of their circumstances, age or demographic.
Participating venues may also offer practical advice, exercise sessions, arts and crafts, cultural activities and information about local support services.
Councillor Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for a Fairer Powys, said the initiative offered more than protection from cold weather. He said warm spaces provided opportunities for residents to meet others, access support and remain connected to their communities.
The council is encouraging local businesses, voluntary organisations and community groups to join the network or update their existing listings.
Grant funding is available to support participating organisations, including improvements to accessibility and facilities.
The authority says the initiative is particularly important for rural communities, where residents may face barriers to accessing services and opportunities to socialise.
Residents can find participating venues through the council's online Warm Spaces Directory.
Community organisations interested in joining the scheme can also register their interest through the Powys County Council website.
