A National Lottery-funded project in Pwllheli is progressing well, according to mayor Eric Wyn Roberts.

The town council has received funding to refurbish and improve Coed Lôn Cob Bach Nature Reserve.

Cllr Wyn Roberts (pictured) said: “It’s always pleasing to be able to report on a project’s progress, especially at these challenging times. In the depths of winter, clearing work has continued and we are grateful for all who have worked so hard.

“We as a council want to engage with people who want to be part of a project that benefits all. A group of volunteers called the Pwllheli Wombles have formed to litter-pick the nature reserve and surrounding area. The town council is eager for them to be represented at further meetings and to give their input.

"We are very fortunate and thankful, that we have so many wanting to contribute their time and efforts.

“The project is on schedule and visible changes are already admired by all users of the paths.

"Regular town council Zoom meetings have taken place to discuss various aspects and individual members have been utilising their allowed daily exercise to see at first hand, the excellent work being done.”

Cllr Roberts continued: “New updated, appropriate and suitable signage and information display boards are being finalised and should be in place by late March. A photographic record is being made which we will continue to share on social media and the town council’s website.”

He added: “The importance of the nature reserve has been proven since its creation in 2007 and since coronavirus is continuing to play its part in supporting people’s wellbeing. We must all ensure that we build on what we have by making further improvements. Nature will thrive if given the opportunity and a helping hand.

“With spring just around the corner, we will benefit from extended daylight hours and better weather. This will hopefully encourage more people to enjoy the not so hidden jewel at Coed Lôn Cob Bach Nature Reserve.”
