A PROJECT aimed at encouraging more Machynlleth residents to grow their own fruit and vegetables has been launched – with the opening of a special show allotment.
Edible Mach, which is part of community organisation Mach Maethlon, launched the show allotment in the Plas grounds and Machynlleth mayor Tony Jones officially opened it on Sunday, 14 August.
The group has set up edible plantings around the town and residents are encouraged to help themselves to the crops.
A spokesperson for the group said they hoped the show allotment could encourage others to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
They said: “We hope that by showing how simple it is to grow some vegetables, herbs and fruit, more people will be inspired to take up spade and fork and start growing their own.
“The thought of taking on an allotment can be a daunting prospect. That is why Edible Mach has created the show allotment.
“During our volunteering and learning sessions we will show the public how to start an allotment, what jobs to do week by week, month by month, what to plant, how to plant, sow and harvest."
