Residents in Tremadog have protested outside the home of a convicted paedophile who is waiting to be sentenced.

Residents of Isgraig estate gathered outside the home of carpenter John Paul Coles on Friday morning following the news that the 35-year-old had been found guilty of indecently assaulting two boys and had been released on bail to his Tremadog home.

Mr Coles was warned that he could face jail time for indecently assaulting two boys.

He denied six charges of indecent assault at Caernarfon Crown Court, but after a three-day trial, the jury found him guilty.

Adjourning sentence for reports, Judge Timothy Petts told Coles: “You have been convicted of very serious offences and a custodial sentence will be uppermost in my mind despite the time that has passed since these offences were committed.”

Coles was granted bail until the sentencing hearing next month, and residents are concerned.

A representative from the protest, who lives on the estate, but did not want to be named, said: “The first we heard of him moving back in was in the press. We complained to the council and it was confirmed on Thursday afternoon that he would be moving back in.

“We ask peacefully and respectfully that he should be moved out.”
