Three Machynlleth community organisations have received funding of over £5,000 each from a supermarket chain’s community fund.

Edible Mach Maethlon, Future Play Machynlleth and Cemmaes Community Church Hall have all benefited from the Big Co-op Payout.

The Big Co-op Payout provided Edible Mach Maethlon, which works to encourage people to grow their own food, and Future Play Machynlleth, which is providing new play equipment in the town, with funding.

There was also funding for the Cemmaes Community Church Hall, which will allow the hall to continue to hold local events such as craft sessions, children’s activities and afternoon teas.

The funding for Mach Maethlon will go toward funding workshops into growing food and cooking it, while the donation to Future Play Machynlleth will go toward funding new play equipment.

The groups that were awarded the funding were chosen by members of the public.

Rebecca Birkbeck, the director of community and shared value at the Co-op, said: “The local community fund is now a well-established way of supporting local causes who help to make communities safer, happier and healthier places to live, and we’re delighted to be able to support such a wide range of local groups as they help to improve wellbeing in west Wales."
