AN AMBITIOUS £24m transport scheme is aiming to alleviate congestion on roads throughout mid and north Wales.

The Welsh Government recently announced the multi-million pound scheme to tackle ‘pinch points’ on trunk roads linking the north and south of the country.

The government is identifying locations where they can improve overtaking opportunities and reduce “driver frustration, unsafe overtaking manoeuvres and journey times”.

Although the scheme will be rolled out across the country, Cambrian News readers in particular should enjoy better roads between Cardigan and Dolgellau (A487), Dolgellau and Newtown (A470) and Newtown and Aberystwyth (A44).

Economy secretary Ken Skates was pleased with the initiative.

“This latest investment provides opportunity for us to do more to tackle junctions which are causing congestion and to look at improving overtaking opportunities on key routes from north to south,” he said.

“I am confident it will genuinely improve experiences across all modes of transport in Wales and deliver real change to local networks that are under pressure.”
