PLASCRUG Community School in Aberystwyth has won £3,120 from the Ministry of Defence to help support children from armed forces families.
The money will be used to buy classroom resources like construction packs and role play resources to reflect the children’s interests. It will also go towards employing an after-school sports club coach, and to fund teachers to observe good practice at schools with pupils from military families.
The MOD Education Support Fund was launched in 2011 to assist publicly-funded schools, academies and free schools throughout the UK to mitigate the effects of exceptional mobility and/or deployment of their service communities.
The fund is available until 2017/18.
Plascrug headteacher Menna Sweeney said: “This is really good news for the school and we are very grateful to the MOD for awarding us this money. It is our intention to use the grant to help support families during periods of extended deployment, when a spouse and children have limited contact with the deployed parent.”
