FUNDING of £60,000 must be found by June to allow a major redevelopment of Aberystwyth’s Ceredigion Museum to go ahead, it has been warned.
While the Heritage Lottery Fund has confirmed a grant of more than £900,000 for the scheme which will see a new entrance for the museum and the relocation of the town’s tourist information centre, £60,000 of match funding has still to be finalised.
Ceredigion Council has been given the go ahead for design and tendering work to take place despite that funding still not being in place, after the HLF agreed to grant ‘phased permission to start’ on the project.
The HLF have approved a grant application of £916,200, but while match funding of £340,000 has been found from other funding sources and a council contribution of £200,000 from the sale of the current tourist information centre at Ty Lisburne, the remaining £60,000 has not been finalised. The council is hopeful that funding will be confirmed within the next few weeks.
However, the scheme could be in doubt if the money isn’t confirmed by June.
