A family from Pwllheli have raised over £6,000 for a hospital caring for their daughter’s curvature of the spine.
The Rees family from Pwllheli visited Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, proudly presenting staff with a cheque for £6,500.
The amount was raised through a variety of fundraising events by family members who say they “are so grateful to Alder Hey for the ongoing care” that 13-year-old Kerys Roberts is receiving from staff during her time of need.
Kerys, daughter of Karen Rees Roberts, 45, a hairstylist in Pwllheli, and Tudur Roberts, is being treated by Alder Hey Hospital for a condition called idiopathic scoliosis which has curved her spine.
Kerys must wear a specially-made spinal brace for 20 hours each day until she has finished growing at the age of around 14 years old.
It is hoped the spinal brace will correct the curve or slow it down.
The teenager travels to Liverpool every four months for X-rays to keep a close eye on the curvature and will usually be given a new brace during the visit.
