BOW Street could be a step closer to a new train station after the Welsh Government submitted an application for £6.8m of funding from the UK Government.
Residents were given the opportunity to have their say on the plans for a new station and transport hub at a public consultation event in July.
The consultation followed years of campaigning and discussions between the Welsh Government, the Mid Wales Rail Implementation Group, Ceredigion County Council, and the rail industry.
And now, the Welsh Government minister for economy and infrastructure, Ken Skates, has announced that a “strong application” for £6.8m of funding from the UK Government’s ‘new station fund’ has been submitted.
Mr Skates said: “We’ve submitted a strong application for 75 per cent of the cost of the proposed project, the maximum provided for under the UK Government funding, making clear that we will provide the balance to ensure completion — £1.7m, including expenditure to date.
“We’ve been working very closely with the local authority, local interest groups and the railway industry to ensure that proposals result in the station and interchange development starting on the ground in April 2018. It will become operational for passengers in 2019."
