A PWLLHELI mother has donated a massive £8,000 to a pancreatic cancer charity after losing her own mum to the disease.

Kelly Williams, a mother of five, has run the London Marathon, carried out a sponsored walk and held a special fundraising evening in memory of her 66-year-old mother Gwen Booth, and raised over £8,000.

Thirty-seven-year-old Kelly lost her mum to pancreatic cancer in May 2015 just 15 days after diagnosis.

And after winning a place in the London Marathon, Kelly started her fundraising and awareness efforts.

After completing the marathon Kelly has also arranged a coffee morning in Tudweiliog, the fundraising night in memory of her mum and arranged a sponsored walk for her children’s school, Ysgol Tudweiliog.

Her hard work has seen Kelly raise £8,018.24 for Pancreatic Cancer Action, a charity which focuses on early diagnosis of the disease.

Kelly said: “At the beginning of the year I was struggling, but when I received the e-mail about the place in the London Marathon it felt like it was meant to be and gave me a massive focus which has really helped my grieving.

“Being able to raise money and hopefully help other people out there raise awareness of this awful disease has helped, and of course keeping my mam’s memory alive.

“I would like to thank everyone who has donated and supported me, family, friends and the local community.”

Kelly’s fundraising efforts aren’t stopping and anyone who would like to help her raise funds can do so and read her story at her Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/kelly-williams38
