WI MEMBERS and guest Jane Bennet were welcomed to the June meeting in the Coronation Hall.
The group’s president thanked everyone who helped at and contributed to the car boot sale, and Ray was thanked for cutting the field and putting the tables out in advance. Eight members enjoyed the House of Colour evening with Coedmore WI. Linda Tame arrived by bicycle as she was practising for a 120-mile sponsored ride towards the building of a school for children in a poor region of Africa.Members discussed the monthly letter and several members opted for ten-pin bowling in September and for walk No 5 to Worms Head on Gower on 2 July.
Carol Piller presented members with the options for the summer outing and after a close vote, it was agreed to go to the Botanical Gardens of Wales on 16 August. Members were informed about an on-line vote for another series of “Home Fires”.
Show within a show – Betty or Kathryn will take the entries on Friday, 15 July.
Betty then introduced the speaker for the evening – Helen Campbell, who had brought her weaving to show and demonstrate. Everyone was encouraged to have some reeds and have a go at twisting them into shapes. Members were fascinated by her talk and of all the varying things to weave with - from ivy to willow and brambles (thorns removed) to daffodil leaves. Linda, who won the competition for the best piece of weaving, gave the vote of thanks.
Members were asked to bring embossing tools to the 5 July meeting, when Val Dixon will be tutoring on pewter work.
