SCHOOLCHILDREN in Aberystwyth who get a soaking while waiting for the school bus are a step closer to having a shelter after the town council confirmed an order has been placed.
The issue of a bus shelter at the top of Plas Helyg, Penparcau, has been rumbling on since June when it emerged the county council and the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency had agreed to allow the town council to relocate a disused shelter from Mill Street in Aberystwyth.
But those plans floundered and, in September, the town council decided to buy a new shelter instead, with delays in its purchase and installation blamed on red tape.
Now, it has emerged that following a quote from Ceredigion County Council, the town council has agreed to purchase a bus shelter for Plas Helyg, which will cost £1,600 and be installed by the county council.
A town council spokesperson said: “Aberystwyth Town Council has agreed and resolved on a price of £1,600 to purchase a one-sided anti-vandalism bus shelter for Plas Helyg."
