A CROSSING on Llanbadarn Road may be considered by the Welsh Government following a safety campaign by Ysgol Penweddig pupils.
Pupils fear for their safety trying to cross the road on their way to and from school and have collected a petition with 300 signatures.
They have been backed by local politicians, MP Mark Williams, AM Elin Jones and Cllr Paul James who sent letters to Economy and Infrastructure Minister Ken Skates.
He has now responded confirming that a 20mph speed limit will be introduced in the area of the school and he added: “We take the issue of road safety very seriously. We will consider this site under the speed limit review as part of our community safety programme this summer. The review may prompt a study into the feasibility of providing a crossing at this location.
“We will also be implementing a part-time 20mph speed limit restriction outside the school in 2017/18.”
The response was welcomed by Cllr James who said: “I’m very happy with the minister’s response. It’s very positive. I’ve asked for a crossing point or for pedestrian refuges, similar to those on Penglais Hill, so hopefully something positive will come from that.”
AM Elin Jones said she was pleased that the concerns were being listened to.
