Madam,

Many true Pwllhelians are appalled at being slighted twice in the last few weeks.

Our mayor and town councillors were not invited to receive the British Empire and Commonwealth Games baton as it journeyed through our town. If this was a breach of etiquette due to a break-down in communications, did the town receive an apology from some underperforming committee?

Last week our mayor, town council and townspeople suffered similar embarrassing indignity when we were not informed about the arrival in Pwllheli (terminus of the Cambrian Coast Railway) of a special train to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of Barmouth railway viaduct! Such lapses in protocol are unforgivable.

On a happier note, the mayor and his dedicated team must be praised for agreeing to pay Gwynedd Council £14,000 to keep all our public toilets open for a further 12 months.

We all look forward to the unveiling of Hwyl yr Wyl’s exciting plans for the future and the new revival of Pwllheli’s Chamber of Trade and Tourism.

The future looks rosy.

Yours etc,

E Roberts, South Beach, Pwllheli.
