AN ABERYSTWYTH councillor has said questions should be asked of landlords whose tenants are repeatedly responsible for strewn rubbish in the town.

Following the launch of the Keep Aber Tidy campaign last week, the Cambrian News has received photos from readers angry at instances of fly-tipping and strewn rubbish.

David Kirby, of Cae Melyn, Aberystwyth, sent us pictures of fly-tipping at Brynmor Road.

Mr Kirby said that, after reporting the fly-tipping at Brynmôr Road to the council on 2 July this year, he collected it in builders’ bags and took it home to prevent any dispersal of the rubbish, before the council collected it on 8 July.

But Mr Kirby said he was surprised the council did not take a statement from him in an attempt to catch the culprit.

“I found one of the bags had a CCC label indicating that it had been put out for collection on the wrong day,” said Mr Kirby.

“The council officer did not take any statement from me regarding any possible prosecution. I was lead to believe that the council rarely prosecutes.”

In an interview with the Cambrian News this week, the council’s Cabinet member for waste, Cllr Alun Williams, said the council chooses not to prosecute offenders because of the potential expense involved.
