Madam,
I am writing with regards to the article headlined ‘Railcard funding scrapped by council’.
The council states that it can no longer afford to subsidise the disabled and pensioners’ railcard and, as usual, the council takes no responsibility for its own actions and lays the blame firmly at the door of the Welsh Assembly for cutbacks.
I feel angered that every time the Plaid-led county council has unpleasant news it always blame anyone but itself. The truth is there comes a time when they have to stop blaming others for their mistakes and take responsibility. After all they’re the ones in power.
With regards to the cut-backs with the railcard, I urge everyone to check the council members’ allowances on the council website.
A total of £36,268.82 was spent last year on travel expenses alone! So it obviously doesn’t matter if the old and disabled face future difficulties due to the constant cutbacks from every quarter as long as our councillors can get around.
Maybe they should issue the councillors with a rail and bus pass for travel and save some of that £36,000 for the people who really need it.
The council is constantly telling the good people of Ceredigion about the harsh decisions it faces with cutbacks, yet to date there have been no pay cuts for councillors or senior management and no capping of expenses.
I wish to place a caveat that not all councillors are the same. So go online and check the figures for your councillor in order to make up your own mind.
Yours etc,
Sean Langton,
Castle Street,
