A REDUCED speed limit is to be enforced at a pedestrian accident blackspot in Aberystwyth, the Cambrian News can reveal.

Plans to reduce the speed limit on Boulevard St Brieuc from 40mph to 30mph are likely to be introduced before the summer.

The measure comes after a female jogger was left with critical injuries after being in collision with a car near to the Starling Cloud pub earlier this month.

In November, near the same spot, a boy on his bicycle was in collision with a car and in October 2013 a Penparcau pensioner was knocked down while crossing the road.

The previous incidents resulted in minor and non-life-threatening injuries, but local councillor Paul James said this week that urgent speed limit changes needed to be made after the latest, more serious, incident.

Cllr James said the plans for the reduced limit, set to go before Ceredigion council’s Cabinet next month as part of over 80 speed-limit changes in the county were to be welcomed.
