Editor,

On page 8 of the Cambrian News, we read ‘We believe that a confirmatory referendum between a realistic Brexit deal and remaining in the EU is the only way to resolve the Brexit deadlock’. So says Liz Saville Roberts! (‘Four candidates vying for your vote’ Cambrian News, 21 November).

Goodness, Plaid is getting worse and worse. Words for them no longer mean what they say. The alliance ‘Unite to Remain’ means Remain for the Lib Dems, the Greens and Adam Price, the leader of Plaid.

But not for Saville-Roberts apparently. Suddenly from nowhere she wants a second referendum and abandons Remain and the policy of the alliance.

A referendum between Remain and a sensible Leave proposal is Labour’s policy of course. And it is not some sudden-wish onset. The deal Jeremy Corbyn will negotiate includes a new customs union, a close single market relationship and guarantees of rights and protections. Whether we should accept that deal or accept remaining in the EU is where Corbyn will remain neutral, leaving the decision to us in the final-word referendum.

Plaid’s support for Jo Swinson’s premiership and her policy of Remain is of course fanciful, but last-minute improvisations by Saville-Roberts raise questions.

Thank goodness Graham Hogg is standing for Labour offering the clear policy of a re-negotiated new deal with the EU, to replace Boris Johnson’s insane ‘all power to international capitalism and free markets’ stitch-up deal, and letting us, the people, decide whether to accept that best possible new deal or to remain.
