The Bro Ffestiniog Remembrance Tree committee has helped to organise events that have raised over £5,300 for a hospice in the town.

The committee organise events such as the lighting of a remembrance tree in Blaenau Ffestiniog for people to remember loved ones they have lost.

Their first event was in 2019 and a smaller event was organised last year to comply with lockdown restrictions.

Annwen Daniels, who is chair of the committee, said: “We donated a cheque for £5,350.

“I think this shows the kindness of the Ffestiniog and surrounding area in such trying times with coronavirus.

“The cheque was presented by Alwen Williams, daughter of Gwilym Price.

“He wanted a remembrance tree in the area after attending the lighting of the tree in Llandrillo.

“Unfortunately, due to ill health, he passed away before the first lighting of the tree, that’s why it was so important to have a member of his family to present the cheque.”

Annwen is looking forward to bringing people together for the tree lighting later this year and also said the money raised will benefit the local community as well as the hospice.

She added: “Hopefully this year we will all be able to come together for the lighting of the tree and remember all our loved ones.

“The cheque was presented to Keri McKie from St David’s Hospice but the local community will benefit from the donation.

“This is because it is used to give care in the home for this area because there is no end of life care locally due to the closure of the hospital.”
