A tree will light up in Blaenau Ffestiniog this month to raise money for Hospice at Home.

The Bro Ffestiniog Remembrance Tree lighting will take place alongside a small service at 4.30pm on Sunday, 29 November.

The event has been organised by the Bro Ffestiniog Remembrance Tree committee.

It is hoped it will give individuals the opportunity to remember special events, such as a wedding or birthday, and to focus on relatives or friends who have died.

Chair of the committee, Cllr Annwen Daniels, said: “It will be a virtual lighting this year because of coronavirus restrictions.

“We are hoping it will be live on social media.

“We don’t want this year to pass us by. People still want to remember loved ones.

“There is a book open to donate, this can be done through the clerk at Cyngor Tref Ffestiniog Town Council.

“The money donated will be used locally in the Ffestiniog area to help people in need of hospice at home.”

Cllr Daniels thinks it is especially important for the tree lighting to take place this year.

She said: “People are lonely, there is a strain on mental health. We want to bring back a bit of normality so that when people go past the tree, they will think of loved ones. Normality is important in these unusual times.

“I’d like to thank everyone who donates. We have a small committee who have worked tirelessly during these hard times and I would like to thank them also.”
