THE organisers of a Machynlleth Cymhorthfa – Repair & Share Fair – event are so happy with its success, that they have decided to make it an annual event.

On Sunday, 13 May, Ecodyfi brought together organisations and volunteers to create an event that also provided a lot of fun for well over 400 people.

At least 50 household and garden items were mended by volunteers in the Repair Café in the community hall at Y Plas.

The biggest group consisted of lamps, radios, fairy lights and other small electrical items, and the second busiest set of menders were those dealing with computers.

Bag makers and menders of fabrics, jewellery and ceramics were also kept busy.

Just as much was happening on the lawn outside, including the Machynlleth Community Bike Workshop and the electric bike area, and about 60 people brought shears and other garden tools for Edward Jones of Aberangell to sharpen.

Due to support from Bro Dyfi Community Renewables – the co-op that owns the two community wind turbines above Pantperthog – everything was free, though donations towards costs were encouraged.

The event grew out of Machynlleth Repair Café, which helps people continue using things that would otherwise be thrown away. Ecodyfi organises sessions of the Repair Café itself more frequently than the Cymhorthfa, with the next one expected to be in June.
